Initiative Petition #43

Gun (Rifle, Pistol and Shotgun) Confiscation &/or Registering Measure*

*Note: as if this date there is no official title to this measure

You are getting this message because you are either a member of MRPC or are on our mailing list.

Initiative 43 (previously known as #42) is in the works and if it passes, it will have very serious

consequences for all Oregonians that believe in the 2nd amendment.  I am not going to try and explain

the initiative to you, there is a link below so please read it for yourself. They need 88,000 signatures

to get it on the ballot.

First, understand that this is not a "bill" and will not be voted on or determined by the governor or legislators.
This will be decided by a vote of the people. That is why it is critical that you be registered to vote.

Here’s a link to wording of the Petition:

http://www.oregonfirearms.org/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/Measure-43.pdf

In my reading of this initiative I understand that some of you would not be able to purchase any firearm or

magazine as defined.  It also means that anyone who already owns a firearm or magazine as defined will need to:

·         Remove it from the state,

·         Sell it only to an authorized FFL,

·         Render it permanently inoperable,

·         Turn it into the state for destruction, or

·         Register it, if qualified, with the state police and pay any fees still yet to be determined.

Please read the attachment for yourselves, but as an idea, here as some examples of an assault weapon

as defined by the initiative.

·         Almost every AR style rifle.

·         Most collectible older military rifles (if they have a bayonet lug).

o   This includes M1 Garand rifles, most M1 carbines, many imports such SKS, M44, Mausers and the list goes on.

·         Any rifle with a flash suppressor, muzzle break, muzzle compensator.

·         Any rifle or pistol with a threaded barrel that could take a flash suppressor.

·         Any centerfire rifle that is less than 30 inches long.

·         And of course all magazines with a capacity of more than 10 rounds.

As you think about this and think you just might sell off your "assault weapons" I can’t imagine many dealers in

Oregon, who are going to want to buy them if they can’t resell them without going out of state. You might only

get pennies on the dollar.  Just a thought.

Here are links to a couple of resources.

I encourage you to read the complete initiative as many media sources (pro and con)

do not represent the content completely or accurately.

For your consideration,

Thanks,
David McFadden
